Each week of camp this summer has a patron saint, and our patron saint this week was Mary. Our Liturgy director introduced Mary under many different titles including theo tokos (God carrier), the Annunciation, and undoer of knots.
Mary, UnDoer of Knots was a new one for me. Devotion to her was inspired by St. Irenaeus around 202 AD, with the basic idea being that Mary's obedience untied the knot created by Eve's disobedience in the Garden. This untying of knots freed the human race from Eve's burdens. Now, Mary under this title can hear your prayers about the knots in your life and intercede for you to her Son.
What are these knots? Jealousy, fear, arguments, fights, and illness. Any of those burdens that keep you from being able to reach her Son because we cannot see the solution that will bring us back to Him.
The next time you are confronted with an impossible decision, a knot that you cannot untangle. Reach out to Mary, the untier of knots, and ask her to intercede with you. She will guide you with her grace and obedience and untangle the mess in front of you.
