Happy 2017! I hope everyone's resolutions have held strong for the last 48 hours, and you are all looking forward to the year ahead. I have seen some really inspiring posts about resolutions and goals for the upcoming year! I love the optimism that a new year brings to us, confident that this is going to be our year to achieve that goal you've been waiting for the perfect opportunity for or the chance for you to make the change you've been wanting to make.
But the majority of these resolutions will not make it through the month. We will slowly sink back into hold habits and in March, find ourselves wishing for another chance to start fresh. Which is why I want to take this chance to remind you that change is not instantaneous. It takes time to become the person you dream of becoming. They say it takes ninty days to form a habit, and a hundred-twenty to break one. So don't be too hard on yourself if you struggle to keep on the bus. Pick yourself back up and try again.
Similarly, as the new year comes and we try to be better children of God (as we should constantly be trying to do) don't tear yourself down because you missed Mass or woke up too late to pray and make it to work on time. Remember that we are all sinners and will be the rest of our lives. All we can do is fall on our Lord's mercy and try, try again. And although the new year is an excellent time to start something new, don't feel like you have to wait until 2018 to try, try again. Everything is made new by God, not by the change of seasons, months, weeks, or years. There is no better time, way, or reason to start fresh than when you are called to come walk with God.
With that being said, every year require a good faith-resolution or two. Here are mine:
Happy 2017 my friends! May your next year be filled with faith, hope, and love.
