I can hardly believe that this Sunday is Palm Sunday: next week is Holy Week! This means that Lent actually ends next Thursday (Holy Thursday). But Holy Thursday and Good Friday have their own traditions that you can participate in to carry you all the way through to Easter Sunday. If you haven't already, make time to go to Confession before next Sunday! Most parishes have confession available before their Saturday evening Masses and many priests will hear your confession by appointment too. Remember that we are using this period to prepare for Easter Sunday; one of the best ways to do so is celebrate the Sacraments Jesus gave to us.
Returning to last Sunday's Gospel, we have one last aspect to address. When Jesus actually prays to His Father for Lazarus, He prays with a confidence in God and God's power to do the impossible. Mary and Martha have already submitted to God's will, accepting that their brother was called away. But Jesus, with the love and trust of a child, prays to God for the impossible: for a grown man, dead for four days, to be raised from the dead.
How often do you try to temper your prayers with an acceptance of God's will? Praying for what you want, but then tagging on at the end that you trust God's will. That trust is a good thing, but don't be afraid to express your fears, wants, and needs! We don't need to "thy will be done" after each prayer to show our faith and trust in God! Praying to God for help, trusting in God's action, that shows God how much we truly believe. We believe that God can do the impossible!
Pray today with an unrentlesss belief in God's greatness, believing that nothing is impossible for God! Abstain from meat bearing in mind the difference between God and God's children. We are still of this Earth and all we need is provided by God. We can also abstain from praying how we think God wants, and just pray from our hearts today. Give God your trust as Christ has done. Trust in God's plan, but also trust in God's great love and faithfulness.
Pray with true faith, abstain from praying "right", and give God your trust.
