We are all raised to love ourselves, to take pride in our work, and to know our strengths. When you search quotes about pride, you are more likely to find quotes find the positives of pride.
This is what makes pride such a deadly sin. Pride is a delicate sin; it is difficult to identify and recognize when it is in our way, because pride inherently skews our vision of ourselves. We struggle to recognize where healthy esteem begins and pride begins. The sinfulness of pride can be seen in arrogance, haughtiness, and vanity. All of which obscure the views we have of ourselves, creating a spiritual blindness. This blindness impedes our ability to see those around us and our need for God. It also means we may not know that we are struggling with pride.
How do you know that you're struggling with pride if it is such a obscure scene? Try asking these three questions:
1.) How hard are you working to maintain "appearances"?
Do you admit when you need help? Can you share the burdens you bear? Are you okay with friends and family knowing that you can't do it all?
2.) Are you overly competitive?
Does your competitive streak go beyond the game? Do you take competitiveness to a new level? Do you focus on a comparison of your performance to others?
3.) Do you make time for God?
Do you allow God to "see" you at your lowest points? Do you give God the credit God deserves? Do you thank God for the many blessings and abilities you have been given?
Take a moment to reflect on those three questions and where ever they may lead you.
P.S. Do you think you're struggling with pride and would like prayers to help you confront this particular struggle head on? Let me know! I'm happy to pray for you.
