This past year, I have completely changed my lifelong career plans, carried and given birth to my son, found my calling, and fallen more in love with my husband and vocation. This will be a treasured year, bringing many precious changes to my life. I wanted to take some time to reflect and rejoice in the highlights this year has brought for me, because although I am extremely excited for what 2018 will bring, this year will always hold a special place in my heart.
Half of this year was spent pregnant, the other half spent learning how to be a mama to our sweet little boy. By no means am I done learning about parenthood (it's a lifelong adventure), but I feel ready for what 2018 holds because he has taught me so much about love, patience, and gentleness in the last six months. Each day holds something new and I feel so blessed to get to share my everyday life with such a fun-loving, happy, adventurous person.
Mindfulness and Minimalism
Many of my posts in the last year have focused on these two concepts/lifestyles. But mindfulness and minimalism have helped me to find the joy in small, simple living. By seeking a more mindful, purposeful daily experience, I have spent more time doing what I enjoy doing (reading, writing, one-on-one time with friends and family) instead of mindlessly consuming media in various forms. Minimizing my makeup, hair routine, and closet has made clothes and body image less of a struggle and a more positive experience. I can't wait to continue striving towards living purposefully and passionately.
I would hate to jinx myself, but I truly believe I have found my calling. I have been actively pursuing my certification to teach secondary English and got to spend time in the classroom this fall and guys... I loved it. It was the perfect combination of all the jobs I've ever held and enjoyed. I felt bright and shiny the majority of the time I got to spend with my cooperating teacher and her students. I enjoyed developing new lesson and unit plans, I was excited to share them with others, and I felt at peace the further I dove into the field. I am so thankful that God touched my heart and led me away from what I believed was my path. God truly had a better plan than I ever could have imagined.
I'm looking forward to all 2018 holds for my family and I. Josh and I have already began to set goals and make plans for the new year. We are both very excited to see our son continue to grow, we're looking forward to the perks his promotion has blessed us with (paid time off!), and continuing to grow as parents and a couple as get closer to celebrating our second year of marriage.
What are you most excited for in 2018?
